Previously, life in these Islands was marked by hardship and challenges, as foreign traders and travelers dominated the exploration of their natural beauty. Unfortunately, the islanders often fell victim to their savage cruelties, while the events occurring in these geographically isolated islands remained unknown to the outside world.

On November 1st, 1956, the group of Islands was officially declared a Union Territory. In 1973, the island group was renamed the Union territory of Lakshadweep. Access to the islands is restricted, requiring permission from the Administration to visit. However, the Lakshadweep Administration takes care of permit formalities for genuine tourists.

The islands primarily rely on fishing and coconut cultivation as their major industries. Almost everything else is sourced from the mainland in Kerala or Karnataka. With a high literacy rate of 92.1%, the local population possesses abundant resources if given the right opportunities.
